Before plunging into the new pile of books I've been gathering all day, thought I'd take note of what I read in Spain. I see now the list might be summed up as farming fantasies, Spanish orientalism, and some collapsarian fun... a mix of escapism and apocalypse!

The World Without Us, Alan Weisman
Andalusia, Sketches and Impressions, W. Somerset Maugham
Life is a Dream, Pedro Calderón de la Barca
Family Romance, John Lanchester
Animal, Vegetable, Miracle and Prodigal Summer, Barbara Kingsolver
The New Complete Book of Self-Sufficiency, John Seymour
Tales of the Alhambra, Washington Irving
Raising Milk Goats Successfully, Gail Luttman
Your Inner Fish, Neil Shubin
The Steep Ascent, Anne Morrow Lindbergh
Parenting for Primates, Harriet J. Smith
For Whom the Bell Tolls, Ernest Hemingway
