I just want to mention that there is an "Exotica" shelf in the produce department at the supermarket, and among the kumquats and star fruit I found corn (two small, shucked ears per package, vacuum-sealed in clear plastic like cosmonaut food) and sweet potatoes, marked ten dollars a kilo! We are so not in Kansas anymore...

I stepped out into the cold this morning and sent her off on her bike.

Prepared a hand
But she never looked back.
Walked frozen onto the train
Bookless and tired.
Cried.
Done this a thousand times.
Didn't wipe them.
Because shame she can't see
Is basically the only genuine thing
I can offer.
